September 2023 Bird Walk

This bird walk will be at the North Potholes Reserve. Bring your binoculars and some walking shoes!

Time & Location

Sep 23, 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM

North Potholes Reserve, Potholes Reservoir, Washington, USA

About the event

Meet at 8 AM at the North Potholes Reserve, in the parking area with the restroom. Bring your Discover Pass and binoculars. All ages welcome. No dogs please. We plan to walk about 2 miles or so during the event. We will be standing, watching and listening for birds much of the time. A diversity of bird species are to be found: Ducks, Eagles, Great Blue Heron, Cormorants, Flickers, Hawks, Swallows, and more! Maybe Pelicans and shorebirds depending on the water level. We will see the state’s largest wading-bird rookery, with estimates of hundreds of nesting pairs. Experienced birders will be along to assist in bird ID.

WDFW North Potholes Reserve: accessed off I-90 Exit 174 just west of Moses Lake. Turn onto S Frontage Road and go west 2.5 miles to Road D.5/un-named (look for green signs reading Public Fishing and Hunting). Turn left and go about 2.6 miles, then turn right for 1.1 miles to another fork. Angle right and traverse down a steep hill to the parking lot/restroom.
